Art and Technology

An appreciation of Art and Design developed through application and skill is essential for a rich and meaningful life and can lead to a range of unique, productive careers.

Expressing ourselves in creative ways, appreciating beauty and communicating ideas through a range of medium are some of the key characteristics of being human. We strongly encourage students to explore their creativity through study in the Visual Arts and Technology.

Year 7 and 8

Students study Art in Year 7 for a semester and Visual Communication in Year 8. They will also study a range of technology subjects each term from the following: Food studies, Textiles, Systems Engineering, Product Design and Technology.

Students will design and create a range of mini makes with a focus on hands on practical skills. The mini make projects are all about building student design thinking, practical skills and confidence in 21st century learning. Students will learn how to investigate and create design solutions to real world problems, using laser cutter, 3D printer, and a range basic hand tools within each subject.

Students in Year 7 will also study Digital Technology.

We have a broad range of electives across year 9 and 10 with students being required to undertake at least one unit of Visual Art, Performing Arts or Technology in Year 9. We strongly encourage them to continue to pursue the development of their creativity with additional units in Year 10.
